Saturday and Sunday, June 10-11, 2017 – SPLT BioBlitz at Heartland Ranch preserve. What a terrific group of attendees, from a variety of scientific backgrounds. See highlights here.

Saturday, June 3, 2017 – SPLT’s Annual “Toast to the Prairie” at the Fleming Mansion in Denver from 6pm-9pm was a fantastic event. It was sponsored by Bonterra Organic Vineyards, Epic Brewing, and Dolan Geiman. Together, we raised enough money to purchase over 50 more acres of shortgrass prairie.

Saturday, April 22, 2017 – SPLT Participation in Earth Day Celebrations at the Wild Animal Sanctuary and Denver Capitol. The crowds were wonderful and full of passion for protecting the planet (and the prairie!).

Weekend of April 7-9, 2017 – Stream Planting on Raven’s Nest. What a fantastic team! 19 people planted about 2,000 cottonwoods and willows on over 20 sites on Rule Creek!

Weekend of March 31-April 2, 2017 – Work Party on Heartland Ranch. Cancelled due to wet weather.

Saturday, February 11, 2017 – Landscaping with Colorado Native Plants Conference at Larimer County Fairgrounds. SPLT participated as an exhibitor; a terrific event!

January 19, 2017 – Pizza for the Prairie. On Thursday, January 19, 2017, 4pm-9pm, Pizzeria Locale at 550 Broadway in Denver held a fundraiser for the Southern Plains Land Trust. 50% of purchases by our supporters went to SPLT. We enjoyed fantastic, authentic pizza at this wonderful restaurant!


December 1, 2016 – SPLT’s 5th Annual Celebration of the Prairie. On Thursday, December 1, 2016, SPLT held its 5th Annual Celebration at the History Colorado Center, downtown Denver (12th and Broadway) from 6pm-9pm. We raised $40,000, which furthers our work to gain ground for prairie wildlife. Thanks to all who donated and attended!

September 29, 2016: Slideshow by SPLT supporter Will Mahoney. “Three Weeks in Saudi Arabia: Vast Deserts & Culture Shock.” What a well-attended (approximately 60 attendees) and fun and lively event! Thanks, Will, for putting this on, and for all who attended!

Labor Day work party: September 3-5, 2016. Thanks to everyone who came out! We removed more hazardous barbed wire.

June 17, 2016: Toast to the Prairie from 6pm-9pm at the Fleming Mansion at Platt Park in Denver. What a fantastic event! Thanks to all who attended; it was a sold-out crowd.

Spring 2016 Work parties. We held three work parties in May and June 2016, removing over 2 miles of hazardous fence from our preserves, to the benefit of wildlife!

Celebration of the Prairie: Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 6pm-9pm at History Colorado in downtown Denver. We had another wonderful Celebration, with about 150 folks attending. Thanks to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, or otherwise help in our success!

Summer 2015 work parties! We held 4 work parties in 2015 on our preserves and removed literally tons of scrap metal, fencing, and debris. The last work party was the weekend of July 25 & 26. We removed 1.5 miles of interior fence. With its removal, our preserves are more accessible for wildlife. The old fence was taken to a local metal recycler. Toast to the Prairie: Friday, June 12, 2015, from 6pm-9pm at the Stone House on the Lakewood Greenbelt. This event was a whopping success, yet again. Thanks to all who donated and attended.

This fun annual event is sponsored by Bonterra Organic Vineyards and all proceeds benefit the Southern Plains Land Trust. We raised $3,000, all of which goes toward paying the mortgage on our Raven’s Nest Nature Preserve.

Film: A Fierce Green Fire (2012)
Dr. Nicole Rosmarino of the Southern Plains Land Trust discussed the conservation work SPLT does near the Comanche National Grassland in southeastern Colorado. Then she presented the film, A Fierce Green Fire, which is about the environmental and wildlife conservation movements.

We had a fantastic 2nd annual “Celebration of the Prairie.” Over 100 guests raised over $20,000 for prairie wildlife! The event was at History Colorado in downtown Denver. Special thanks to HawkQuest for bringing five magnificent owls to the event.

Monday, Nov 4, 2013 from 11am-10pm
The Watercourse held an all-day “non-profit Monday” benefit for SPLT. A portion of all purchases on this day go to SPLT. The Watercourse is a fabulous restaurant, located at 17th and Emerson in Denver. Many of our supporters stopped by that day for lunch, dinner, or baked goods, and all of the restaurant patrons were receptive to our work. Many thanks, Watercourse!

Work Party at SPLT Preserves in southeast Colorado. Equal parts work and play! We had a great weekend, with 15 people attending. Cleaned up over a ton of scrap metal, old wood, and trash. Thanks to all who helped.

Friday, May 17 & Saturday, May 18, 2013 @ 8am-5pm
SPLT held a garage sale at 6439 E. Maplewood Ave. in Centennial. Proceeds went to our Land Fund and enabled the purchase of over two acres of our new preserve. Thanks to all the kind folks who donated items! Garage sale visitors were interested to learn about the work SPLT does to provide forever homes for prairie wildlife.

Trattoria Stella in Denver held a “Sunday Service” to benefit SPLT at their 3201 East Colfax Avenue location! 12.5% of all sales that evening benefitted SPLT and our work to protect land for prairie wildlife.

Saturday, February 2, 2013 @ 9am – 2pm
February 2 was Prairie Dog Day. The Plains Conservation Center hosted a wonderful Prairie Dog Day Celebration, which is a Groundhog Day for the West. The event included prairie dog scavenger hunts, wagon rides, crafts, puppet shows and more. Several other non-profit organizations, including SPLT, the Prairie Dog Coalition of the Humane Society of the United States, WildEarth Guardians, and Prairie Wildlife Research, participated.
